News

AChemS is very sad to announce that our 'founding father', Dr Maxwell M. Mozell (Max), passed away on the morning of March 28, 2020, at the age of 90. Besides spearheading the creation of the Association for Chemoreception Sciences in 1978, through his more than 45-year career Max made fundamental contributions to the neurobiology of olfaction and fostered the careers of many scientists in the chemosensory research community. We will be posting a more detailed remembrance of Max and his contributions to our community in the near future. In the meantime, we are deeply saddened by the news of his passing, and send our best wishes to his surviving family.

Women scientists continue to be underrepresented in many public venues, whether it be as invited symposium speakers, members of important policy panels, or voices in media stories. The organization 500 Women Scientists is trying to increase women’s voices in science by making it easier for reporters, policymakers and even other scientists to find women with relevant expertise and/or perspectives.

If you are looking to organize a symposium, panel or any other event that needs a scientist, this resource might be of help. If you are a woman scientist at any career stage and would like to sign up to be a resource for others, you can do that on the website. Other resources that may be of interest to anyone trying to promote diversity in science are also listed on this page.
